What happens to a JobHandy device after the contract period?

After return, our rental devices go through a structured refurbishment process to prepare them for efficient reuse. We focus on sustainability, data protection, and thorough quality checks. Below is an overview of how the 2nd lifecycle process at JobHandy works.

1. End of the rental period

At the end of the rental period, we provide a simple and hassle-free return process. A return label is generated automatically, so shipping is free and straightforward for our customers.

2. Smart Receive – Initial inspection & data security

After the device is returned, it undergoes a thorough inspection to ensure it is the correct model and that no active locks are in place. This includes a serial number check for identification, verification of lock status (FMI check, lock check), and an initial GDPR-compliant data wipe to securely remove customer data. These steps ensure safe and privacy-compliant further processing of the device.

3. Auto Grading – Condition assessment & cleaning

Once the device has passed the security check, it is professionally cleaned and undergoes a condition assessment. An AI-based technology is used to capture and evaluate the device’s visual condition. This allows scratches, signs of wear, and other traces of use to be reliably detected.

4. Auto Testing – Fully automated functional testing

Each device undergoes robot-based functional testing to verify full technical performance. This includes checks of the display, touchscreen, battery life, charging function, speakers, microphone, sensors, and camera. If any defects are detected, a further analysis is carried out to determine whether repair or reuse is possible.

5. Channeling – 2nd lifecycle decision

After the technical analysis, a decision is made on how the device will be reused. This is followed by a second, comprehensive GDPR-compliant data wipe to ensure the highest data protection standards. The device is then assessed to determine whether it is suitable for reuse or needs to be repaired or resold.

6. 2nd Lifecycle – Reuse & resale

Based on the analysis, each device follows one of three possible paths:

Re-use
Devices in good condition are approved for continued use and enter a second lifecycle.

Refurbishment and repair
If needed, the device is professionally refurbished or repaired. This decision is based on both economic and environmental criteria to ensure that as many devices as possible are reused.

Resale
Devices suitable for resale are marketed through B2B or B2C channels. Selection is also guided by economic and environmental considerations.

7. Kitting & shipping

Before a device enters its next usage phase, it is carefully packaged. We use an eco-friendly BrownBox packaging solution produced in cooperation with social institutions. All required accessories are included before the device is securely shipped.
